Default One Year Later (my 07 Jetmotos spring start up in 08)

Along with Sara my neighbor's 11 year old daughter (long story) we have just spent the last few days working on all my 07 Jetmotos getting them ready for the up coming summer. Before every ride there are always a lot of little things to fix as well as oil changes and all. Most all repairs and mods have went well. After I got the broken wire on the CDI unit fixed on the Red 250 I started it up and found I now have an oil burner. I have not torn into it but look as if the Rings or a scarred cylinder may be at fault. Not sure what I am going to do at this point about it. The Blue 250 that has seen the same riding conditions and even more miles is still running great.
I will post more about the spring repairs when I get a chance.

Here are a few photos of the quads today as they are!

I added some more Start Up photos on my site! 08 Start Up Page

Hey Outofline, I have a 2007 150 and I have been following all of your posts, you do a great job. The 150 is my 10 year old son's and I have a 500 Polaris. The question is what have you done with the air filter and air box on the 150 to prevent water from getting in? Back here in the East we have mud and water unlike you guys, any help would be appreciated.

Hey, Kman. The smoke was real apparent from the first moment I fired it up last week, you can see it in a picture on my 08 page on my site. I later replaced the oil 2 times and went to a 20/50 in hopes it would lessen the burning and it has a bit but it still burns. The Compression is 80psi just like the Blue 250, I see no oil on the Intake valve and the Spark plug is seeing the oil so it's definitely in the combustion chamber when it burns which leaves Rings or Cylinder wall. Unless I'm over looking something!
Other then the oil burner they are all in good working condition and the boys eagerly wants to get out on them as I am!
golfer, I have not made any mods to the 150 air box, we don't ride through water much. I really don't know what makes for a good water box and a bad box. Are you having problems with your 150 in the water? I know they are a bit low to the ground, are you riding in water that submerges the motor? Wish I could help but I just don't know!

sorry to hear about your delema. What is normal compression around 112? I run 20/50 motorcycle oil in my bikes mainly because it suppose to be good for wet clutch. In you oppinion do you think that is safe? I know you have some good understanding of oil.

I will only run 20/50 in my quads unless I'm riding in winter which may be too thick for cold morning start up. Then I would run 15/40. I did run 15/40 last summer just cus they were new and tolerances were tight.
No I get 80 psi on both of my 250's compression. It's an older gauge so who knows it may be inaccurate but shows the same for both 250's. I otta run a test on my car just to make sure I get 110-120 there! Anyone care to test their 250's compression?

Nice way to get spring cleaning going outofline. Bummer about the smoking quad. Does yours smoke the whole time its running? One of my quads... I think its the 125.. smokes at cold start up for about 2 seconds. I have always used Valvoline 10w-40 in all of mine. (yep the car stuff)

kczukiman, why do you use 20w-50? Can you not get your brand of motorcycle oil in a 10w40?

Supergolfer, I just put a uni pod filter on my 150 and was thinking how neat it would be to make a remote air box out of a coffee can. I would use some of that flex radiator hose. Wouldnt be be too tough to find one with a 1.75 ID. I havnt looked at the '07 frame to close but maybe you could try something like that. My '06 150 had a very waterproof airbox stock. Is the '07 150 just a filter on the end of the carb like the 200/250?

I have not really looked for it.The only weight advance auto parts carries here in the motorcycle oil is 20/50.Do you think its not necessary to use motorcycle oil?

I dont think its necessary in low hp air cooled thumpers. I dont think they put enough stress on a clutch or anything inside to notice the difference. Now having said that I wouldnt use it in a water cooled high hp thumper. My KTM gets Amsoil 10w40 motorcycle oil. 2 strokes get Belray gear oil and the rest of the fleet runs Valvoline 10w-40.
