Default Spark, Fuel, New Plug, No start

Hello again guys.

Got a quad that had no spark, cut the safety switch wiring and got spark back, previous owner did not know much about the bike. Tried to start it and no go, cranks good but not even a pop with staring fluid in the head or the air intake. When I tried to give it throttle it was really hard, I figured a bad cable. Pulled the carb off and I had to pry the plastic sleeve the throttle cable fits in, out of the carb through the bottom. It was like a sticky/honey color residue in everything making the throttle completely stuck and unusable. So, cleaned all that up (keep in mind this carb has zero adjustment) as best I could and put it back together. Got a new plug, nothing again. Compression test, 125 PSI, seems legit???

I was wondering what the bowl of this guy looks like after seeing the rest of it but its sealed (California emissions) so I'm guessing a new carb would do it?

Anything I'm missing?

Thanks,

DRN

Thanks for the idea but no dice. I didn't think of that though, adding that to the troubleshooting guide.

I still smell carb cleaner when it cranks, makes me think its not getting fuel after all. When I got it it was bone dry but I filled it up some and it had some flow when I reconnected it to the carb but maybe not enough. Going to drain the fuel and I have another petcock and some hose so I'll report back.

Any ideas on how to get rust out of the tank without making a total mess of the situation???

I use Evapo Rust. Toss in some nuts and bolts with it and shake the tank a couple times a day. It seems to be safer than acetone or acids, but it's not a fast process. As far as your other issue, I've had good luck, so far, drilling out those tamper proof bolts with a left handed drill bit. I've never had to get down very far before they back right out. Just need to make sure the bit is centered to really well

Thanks for that RBC. I have lefty bits and easy outs and may drill it out tonight just to clean it up and try and get it to turn over but I do have another carb on order. I only got this one to fix and sell so some adjustability and the ability to clean the carb will help the next guy.

Does anyone have any thoughts about that sticky stuff in the carb? How that may affected the motor? Should I just pull the head and check it out or wait for the carb? For me, it wouldn't be a bid deal to do so, I have extra gasket kits but it sees like the compression is good so I a hesitant to take that route just yet.

Thanks as always everyone.

. Take plug out add little gas to the engine put plug back in it should start for a second if it does your carb is still dirty or your gas is really old

Thanks Tkopp.

I got a new carb, new gas, new plug, new battery, I have spark and it still won't start. It turns over fast, sounds like all the other quads I have like it, but no start.

I flipped the fuel filter around and still no dice.

Pulled the gas line and I have no problems with flow from the tank to the carb via gravity.

Starting fluid did nothing in the cylinder or the intake.

Not sure what the next step should be?

Also most have air/fuel screw on side but it also capped and have to drill out also.
