Yomoto or Yamoto
#1
I was recently gifted a "Yomoto 150cc" from my brother. My first question is:
On the seat it reads, "Yomoto" All my searches, this forum included come back as "Yamoto". Is this the same brand? If so, why does my quad have a different spelling?
Second, what site could I go to to order parts? I tried motopartscenter.com but I'm pretty sure I got screwed over. The money came out of my account but I haven't received the parts and none of my emails have been answered.
Any info pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Yamoto is a fairly obvious rip off of the Yamaha name. Possible that Yamaha threatened action, so Yamoto changed their name a bit to head Yamaha off. Also possible that someone saw Yamoto doing well and ripped off their name, or the Yamoto factory got seats with the name spelt wrong and used them anyway. I mend Merry Tillers, hence the username, and Atco, the UK maker, called one model the Spartan, they got a big batch of name badges with the name spelt Sparton, and used them anyway. Regarding spares, it is the wild west. Most Chinese makers have no spares back up, so generic Chinese spares specialists have sprung up. They can't know which parts for a Tao Tao are going to fit a Buyang for instance, so give sizes and pictures, and you have to make your own mind up which part fits what. Bound to be a few rouge traders in there too.

Thanks for the info. I have no experience with quads but my brother gave me me one for my kids. Supposedly, all it needed was a new CDI box. In trying to fix that, I found out the hard way that my quad uses a DC CDI and not The AC CDI. Some stuff was worn out or broken like the left and right brake handles and seat but Parts have been difficult to find as I have had to just match up pictures the best I can. If I get it running, I want to put new shock absorbers on it bust as you can probably guess, I can't find any and I don't know enough about Chinese quads to know what I'm looking for.

Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like a GY6 engine with shaft drive, unusual. I rather think Yamoto specialised in shaft drive so could well be a name altered to avoid litigation.I would get the seat re-upholstered, we get seats re-covered locally even though Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki seats are easy to get, re-upholstery is cheaper, in Suzuki's case much cheaper. Shocks on Chinese stuff tend to be over stiff anyway so checking lengths on fully extended, fully compressed and the mounting point shapes/sizes is about all you can do, then go for the closest match. Brake handles are fairly generic. I got the wrong lever for an Apache recently and it is an exact match for some Hondas.

I finally got it cranked after finding a Direct current CDI box on Amazon. Also found a seat on Amazon for $29 dollars. It won't stay idled, as soon as I let off the throttle, it dies. also replaced the brake reservoir and bled the rear brakes but the rear brakes still will not work. And I can't get the quad in neutral or reverse.

Ah, so it isn't shaft drive, my mistake. That bevel box forward neutral reverse was used by a few makers, so possible other assemblies would fit. Is it the lever which jumps out, or the actual gearbox which has worn dogs? The cable adjuster is loose, which won't help, and the gearbox filler cap should have a breather pipe, so it may be full of water. Brakes on quads can be bad to bleed, I suspect they used the reverse bleeding technique at the factory, pumping fluid in through bleed nipple until fluid reservoir was full. I sometimes take calipers off mountings and lay them so there is an all upwards run of the pipe, so no pockets where air can be trapped, when bleeding.
