That was a good ride today, once I figured the 450 could swim. It was nice to finally meet some of the club, and hopefully go ride again sometime shortly. Im up for anything as long as its on a Sunday..........that sounds like a country song.
Zilla rider, I talked to you today at the river about some 250r parts, let me know what you figure out.

Brink, the Sherriff stated that "we were tresspassing on Federal Property by crossing the railroad tracks". Also, he said that the next step would be to impound Vehicles and ATV's. I asked why the McClain County Sherriff's were out there and not someone from the RailRoad. His reply was that the railroad gave jurisdiction to the Sherriff's Dept..........I believe that some of the property under and around the bridge could be privately owned, however the rightway and other stuff is in the air. I hope you find out some good info. I don't want to lose the river as a riding area!
As for the 250R Parts PM me with what you need and I'll check my stash!!
TD, you have a PM

We used to hold races in the river back in the 70's. Ivan (Iron Man) Stewart pulled from Calif. one time to race. The races would start at around Norman and go to Hinton area and back. Around the mid 70's the sheriffs stopped the riding because the river belongs to the land owners on each side to the middle of the river. Thus making the river private property. I have not heard if the law has been changed. Hopefully the state will do something so we will have a place to ride. Since the city is on each side of the river at Purcell, maybe it is just the railroad right of way that is in question.
Met zillarider02 (Mike) and his family and also Tyler at the river today. Did not meet any others though. We need a way to identify each other so we can introduce ourselves. Bob, how about coming up with a club ATV flag.

another thing youre going to run into is deer season. a lot of us locals hunt that area of the river in the fall. primitive firearms season starts in a few weeks and the hunters dont want a bunch of people on ATV's down there scaring the deer. my stands are farther south than where we've been riding, but not that far. i dont care tho, i'd rather ride.
some of the local cops and sheriffs deputies hunt down there too. maybe his interests in getting you off the river were more personal than professional. who knows?
just be careful. i know the sheriff here .. and if he impounds your atv, youre not getting it back. he dont play.
i'll keep you posted if i hear anything

Charlie,
Interesting points. I am a cop and have an (@$$hole) uncle that owns some land on the river at Atwood, so I have heard a lot about this. I am currently under the impression from some Seminole County deputies that the river itself is technically a gray area that no one in law enforcement around these parts wants to touch with a 10 foot pole. The river is like the highway. Yes, the landowner "owns" the land, but it is also claimed as state property with state right of way, thus making it "public" for sake of argument. This is like landowners out of city limits actually own the property to the middle of the road. I will get clarification from the McClain County District Attorney hopefully tomorrow. I also plan to ask the Sheriff what is going on (in a nice way, Andy).
Someone has undoubtedly pissed the wrong people off & those people have obviously called the Sheriff. Is the Sheriff on the ballot this year in McClain County?
I also wonder if the actual Sheriff knows his Deputies are enforcing this "Law".
Also, if the area is not fenced or otherwise properly marked, then my guess would be that this so called "trespassing" would be a nightmare for the Sheriff & wonderful for the attorney for the person whose ATV's & vehicles were impounded ($$$CHA CHING$$$)
I have been there before and it appears to be a river access road a whole lot more than it looks like some sort of super secret federal rail access road.

My computer goes down for a few hours and next thing I know you all are getting in trouble with the law and everything else.
I seem to be up and running thanks to my neighbor across the street and some software that "Fell off a truck" somewhere in Saudi Arabia where copyright laws are not recognized. But I should be back pending any future problems.

jason,
its my understanding that its only federal if the property is actually owned by the railroad (interstate commerce act). and i know that the river is technically 'private property' but i also believe that the state has a sort of 'easement' on it for just these sorts of circumstances. if anyone knows a state game ranger, he or she could probably clarify this.
we have to keep clear heads about this. the last thing we need is to **** anyone off and make matters worse.
guys .. do we all use AIM? my AIM id is: CMyBigBear, ... send me your id's

Hey Guys,
We found some land. It is located about 6 miles south of Seminole just off Hwy 99. It consists of 430 heavily wooded acres and has a river running through it.
We were looking for 600 acres or more, but land lots that size that fit the criteria for a trail system is hard to find around here. And when you do find it, it's already leased out to the deer hunters or someone is using it for other purposes. Trust me, we have been looking diligently for several weeks now.
Anyway, this land just happens to belong to a friend of ours who goes to a sister church of ours and he has assured us that WE get the first option on the land. Since we told him we wanted it he said he was taking it off the market and won't even show it to anyone else.
We just happen to stumble across this property (and the fact that he owns it) a few weeks ago and tried to contact him but he and his wife were out of town on vacation. They just got back and we went and looked at it today. It's not as hilly as we'd like it to be, but it's a start and it'll work. We plan on adjacent land aquasitions in the future that will offer a more diverse terrain, but this land does offer some challenging riding areas. And I KNOW you river-runners will like it.
Anyway, we're meeting with the banker (again) on Tuesday. Don't know for sure how long it will take to get the trails open once we close on the land, but I'm projecting not more than a month. Course, it'll probably take about a month to close on it, so we're looking at about two months away. Is this cool or what? I'm as giddy as a school girl - been walking around with a big cheezy grin on my face all evening.
The Park will be open to ATVs (3 and 4 wheeled), motorcycles, equestrians, BMXers and hikers. It will also offer primitive camping in the beginning, but soon we will ad improved campsites with full RV hook-ups. Eventually, we'll even have a bath house, bike wash fuel station, cabins and even a small quick-stop like store that sells groceries, camping gear and maybe even ATV/motorcycle parts. We may even offer ATV rental too (Gordon?).
If you guys have any questions about it, fire away. I'll tell ya all you wanna know.
James
