D-DAY ATV Jamboree April 15th-17th,2005 Update
Friday April 15th opened up with near perfect weather as a few of the nearly 325 ATV’s started to arrive for the 1st Annual D-DAY ATV Jamboree. With riders from 7 states converged on the Bunker Extreme D-Day 4x4 600 acre + complex in Northwestern Okla. just outside Wyandotte, Ok. Dewayne Convirs & crew had the facility ready for the riders. Friday was open riding day with guided Trail rides for the adults & kids alike. As members from the NW Ark ATV Riding Club prepped the area for the competitions to be held Saturday Kids and adults enjoyed the Off-Road facility. As the evening drew to a close, small groups gathered around campfires talking and telling stories ranging from Trail riding stories to who’s ATV was baddest & faster then the other.
Saturday morning awoke to the smell of Bacon, Eggs, Biscuits & Gravy & the smell of exhaust of AV’s in the air. The events for the day started with the ATV Rodeo at 10am. Young & old alike tried their hand at skills in the Flag Race, Cone Race and Barrel Races. With over 120 participants fun was had by all. Next came the Dirt Drags. With about 60 racers lined up for bragging rights, the race was on. The best racing of the day was in the 401cc & up class that boiled down to a good old 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke battle. When the Dust settled the 2 stroke Yamaha Banshee reigned supreme. The Mud Pit is what everybody came for and that was up next in the competition. The Pit was tough on a lot of the racers as only 5 of the 40 + that attempted made it through the pit. All got covered with the Mud and grime of the pit with the joy of knowing that they gave it their all in the pit. Awards were handed out after that with Young Dalton Slavens making a clean sweep in the ATV Rodeo & Dirt Drags in his class. When asked if he had a good time, the young racer of Choteau, Okla., simply said,”Yep.” With a big smile as he held his 4 - 1st place plaques. There were guided trail rides all day Saturday as well & a Kids Obstacle Course manned, prepared & ran by the NW Ark ATV Riding club. The Rebel Outlaws Assisted in Parking and spotting at the Mud Pit....
Sunday morning rose to a near perfect day also. With most ATV’ers heading back to their homes the place was open to all riders. All had a great time with many saying they will be back in Aug. for the Summer ATV Jamboree scheduled on Aug 12th-14th,2005.
