Default Birdseye Mountain ATV Club Castleton Vt.

Greetings from VASA's newest ATV club! BMAC-Birdseye Mountain ATV Club.

BMAC received approval and support from VASA to start a new atv club in March of 2008. From then on it's been full speed ahead. We composed our Mission, Objective and Purpose statement, wrote our By-Laws, became Inc. with the State of Vt., and tax exempt with the IRS and having it all done in time to have our 1st club meeting one month later in April of 2008.

From the 1st club meeting of our newly formed club, members just jumped right in and started working on making our trails ready to open as soon as possible. Our Trail Patrol has GPS'd and numbered the trails. Plus, we have named the trails following the written history of the trails when the mountain was a ski area/ campground in the 1960's-70's. The Trails were opened on May 11th 2008-Mother's Day.

As a non-profit organization we support our local humane society and during the last summer worked on establishing a partnership with VASS.
As of Oct. 1 2008 Birdseye Mountain ATV Club was pleased to announce their association with Vt. Adaptive Ski and Sports.
Together they will work to enable persons with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy safe atving and other available recreation on beautiful Birdseye Mountain.
The Mission of Vt. Adaptive is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities. They promote independence and further equality through access and instruction to sports and recreational opportunities. Birdseye Mountain ATV Club will endeavor to help them along that trail.

We have a had a few winter outings and plan to have many more just biding time for Spring, to start working the trails and opening many new ones.

The mountain has a great history much of which can be read here;

Then for almost 25 years it sat dormant until the present owner, Ed Davis a local RV business man bought it and fullfilled his lifelong dream of someday owning the Mt. His love of camping and atving is allowing the Mt. range to come back to life. He hopes in the near future to be able to open an ATV campground.

As a new club we have 65+ active members and two 4 legged mascots. A poodle named Molly and a Yorkie named Emma that love riding in their doggy napsacks on the atv's.

We have club meetings on the second Sunday of every month. During riding season we meet at our Trail Head, then we can ride before and after the meeting.

You must be a member of VASA (Vermont All Terrain Sportsman Association)to ride these trails and a VASA club, like BMAC.

Hi BMAC, I often vacation in VT and have been in the Castleton area many times. I also have property in Barnard, VT with the Central VT Quad Runners trails going through my property. I had registered in Vermont originally but found it to be too costly when they required liability insurance. For me to buy it, living in MA and riding in VT and NH, it would be very expensive. I was wondering if you are covered by a riding clubs insurance if you are a member? Any help would be appreciated. I really enjoyed the couple of times I was able to ride in VT before they changed the laws. Thanks

If you have property in Vt. have you given any thought to registering in Vt. again? Individual Liability insurance is $80 for a year.

Q. Am I required to carry proof of liability insurance on my ATV?
A: No. Vermont Statutes do not require you to carry liability insurance on your ATV, however, VASA strongly recommends that you do have liability insurance.

Individual Liability Insurance:
VASA uses many municipal rights of way and roads in the connecting of trails. Some of these roads require the permission of the town in order for the clubs to use them. Increasingly, towns are requiring that riders have insurance on their machines. As a result, individual liability insurance is required to ride the VASA trail system. Many of the towns that allow VASA clubs and ATVs to use their road system as part of the trail system require it. It is the sole responsibility of the ATV operator to purchase their own policy.

You should look into it more or I will when I have a little more time. Birdseye Mt. is privately owned, if you do not leave our trails you wouldn't be riding on municipal roads or crossing rights of way. Some towns are allowing atvs on Class 3 roads.

Hi again. I tried getting insurance in VT and was told that I had to purchase it here in MA because I am a resident of MA and that my quads are garaged in MA. Liability insurance in MA is very expensive. It's more like $144 per quad. If I add in the VASA membership, and club membership it gets mind numbing. Hopefully, the prices will be coming down some in the future. Thanks for you help.
