I wouldn't worry about joining a ATV club in Michigan unless riding and talking about who's going to bring the weenie's and pop for the next ride, is all's you want out of a membership.

Back in 2000, I helped form a ATV club in the State of Michigan, and than another one in 2003. All of it's founding fathers have since left the club for various reasons, which included but are not limited to, poor leadership and lack of political involvement within our sport. Today, they [moderators] of their discussion forums will close threads and ban you from using their forums if you bring up any part of the political aspects of our sport that they dont want to hear or they might disagree with.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's alot more to an ATV club than just talking about who's going to bring the weenies and pop for the next ride.

*What about trail closers?
*How about mismanagement of earmarked funds?
*How about 7.5 years of crackerjack safety classes & instructors under the DNR watch?
*How about terrible trail conditions?
*How about seeking to double the costs of an ORV sticker without first fixing and addressing the above issues first?

And the list goes on/on.

MI actually has numerous atv clubs. Many ride, do maintenance and fight to improve our off-road program. I would guess there are at least 50 or more of them. Do a search on Yahoo. Many are located in the UP as well as the LP. A good start would be ATV Offroad Club of Michigan.

This would depend on each persons perception of '' fight to improve our off-road program'' really means!

Do you mean forming a MMRC with closed doors to anyone who has different opinions theirs, and folks who head to Lansing and lay claim that THEY represent ALL OFF-ROAD USER GROUPS [ see below post ]

*QUOTE FROM a post at ATV OFF ROAD CLUB of MICHIGAN*
I will be at the meeting along with Dick Ranney and Thomas Dunn. Not sure if Pat Brower and Jeremy Valley or Lew Shuler will be attending. Also attending will be the DNR and someone from the Appropriations Committee. Don't think the general public can attend. We of the MMRC have always attended these meetings to represent ALL the offroad user groups. Also I want to urge you to support the current bill package we have now Bills #5612 thru 5615, and let your Reps. know. Thankyou.
*END QUOTE*

If you think that the Michigan Motorized Recreation Council [ MMRC ] represents ALL off-road users in Michigan, than your perception of '' FIGHTING TO IMPROVE OUR OFF-ROAD PROGRAM'' is way off!

The link no longer works. Does anyone know if this club still exists? I'm looking for riders in the thumb area of Michigan. Tuscola county is now ORV friendly on county roads.

@muddygriz

I live in Tuscola County (Millington) and county roads means gravel roads which we have very few unpaved roads I'm always up for a good ride though!

That link does still work by the way...I joined their site a couple years ago and just wasn't very impressed with their coordination and organization...

I live in the western part of WI by Hudson. I am always looking for any muddy trails to ride I haven't really found any to speak of. If anybody knows of any clubs that are more mud or challenging trails orientated over normal trails please let me know. I do appreciate the trails they just aren't for me. Also I always ride on legal trails, I am not into trespassing. This is why I am interested in finding more places to ride with other people who enjoy the same.
