I am thinking about putting a set of Cheng Seng "Nomad" Rear tires on my Banshee. I ride on pavement, desert and sand down in Mexico. These seem to be a paddle type tire, but pretty tough also. I need some type of paddle composition so I can mix it up in the sand.

I tried a set of Pro-Wedges last weekend in Mexico, but they went flat when I took them out in the desert. The area I ride in has a lot of broken glass so I need a pretty durable tire. The Pro-Wedges worked great in the sand, but they got punctured somewhere else.

Because of where my home is in Mexico, I am forced to ride on asphalt pavement, desert and sand. I am looking for the best sand tire that would also be durable enough for the other two areas.

Once the Nomad is mounted and blown up, does it crown like the Pro-Wedges or is it more flat like a Skat-Trac paddle? The paddles are designed in a manner simialr to the Pro-Wedge, but seem to be much thicker. The tire also is a lot heavier than the Pro-Wedge.

Would I be better off using my Holeshots on the rear or is the Nomad a good alternative?

I have located a new pair of Nomads, but I understand Cheng Seng has discontinued them. Do you know if this is true?

Any experiences with this tire?

 

Had a set on a 87 Quadzilla worked well in the NY mud. Got great life out of them. The paddles may be kinda short for the sand though. May be a good comprimise for you. Hope this helps.

Once they were mounted and aired up, did was the top of the Nomad flat like a Holeshot or Skat-Trac Paddle or more crowned (rounded top) like the Stock Banshee tires?

I had 22x11x10 ? maybe 12 wide dont remember. Air pressure? They were flat like a holeshot. But the edges of the paddles were rounded off not as sharp as a holeshot. A guess but I think the paddles were about 3/4 inch tall.

They came on the machine when I bought it. I wasnt sure if I would like them. With the wheel speed I thought they might rip. Ran them a riding season with no ill effects. Not much side bite for cornering though. Sold the machine with them still on it. Not much of a trail/woods machine.

OOOOPSSS. I went to look at these tires yesterday and discovered the Nomad is made by Kenda Tire Company.

Does anyone else have any experience with the Noamd tires in Sand, Desert, Asphalt, etc.?
