Difference between ITP holeshots and factory?
#2
Durability! Out in the desert, you wouldn't get one ride out of a set of stockers. Holeshot XC's (6-ply 20" rear/4-ply 22" front) are my choice, and they have never let me down in thousands of miles of riding. On the other hand, folks with stock tires on anything are limping home all the time!!! Another thing to consider, the 6-ply Holeshots are heavier so it takes more power to get them turning.
Wider than stock! I put mine on ITP rims, which are wider and have a larger offset. The result is a bike that is 3+" wider in back, and 2" wider in front. Just wide enough for some extra stability, but not so wide that you can't trail ride too.
The ride will be a little rougher. The stock tires aren't cushy balooners, but they do contribute something to the suspension. Most people don't realize this.
Performance? The ride is different. It is hard to explain. The stockers give a kind of sporty feel to the bike. You lose a bit of that with the Holeshots, but you gain a tire that can be ridden more agressively. Traction is great with either. As for mud, we don't have any out here so I can't give an opinion.
I presume you are primarily a trail rider?? You might want to consider the Standard Holeshots (4-ply 20" rear/2-ply 21" front). They are lighter than the XC's and way lighter than the XCT's. The 21" fronts give the bike VERY QUICK steering for the trail.
