riding in the snow

If I stud the 400ex tires which I have been toled is probibly a good choice for me being 16, 5'11'' and 150lb. Will it go in the snow good? Go up hills in the snow? I have a snowmobile so I could pack down trials and my Dad said that his 90cc 3weeler whent throw the snow fine. Any other things I should consider for snow plese tell me. Just say anything you know abou snow riding plz.

I don't think you would need to stud your tires. If you can pack down the trails with you snowmobile you should be fine. Just make sure you stay on the area you have packed down. I remember one time when I was in NY and we had about 4 feet of snow I was packing down a trail and my dad was following me on a 4-wheeler and he got off to the side and sunk. We tried digging it out for about an hour and then finally I got the smart idea of hooking a chain to the back of my sled and pulling it out. DUH.
You might want to try getting some bigger tires tho with some more surface area. We got about 10 inches snow down here in NC the last 2 days and I was out on our quads and as long as I kept the speed and revs up I was ok, but after I slowed down I was screwed. The tires would just spin until they eventually found grass.

The only thing studs will get you is the law suit from the guy behind you, when you spin one out into his forehead. Several in the group I ride with have the GROUDHAWG type (full directional). Although they are great mud tires they tend to fill up with snow very quick and don't spin clean. Sort of becomes a slick. The carlise wolfs I have, although being directional, cleans out quickly. So look for a tire with lots of space between the treads and probally is not too flat. I think the best solution is one we have tralked about; is a seperate set of winter only snow tires. If wheels wern't so expensive.
