I have a `91 KQ and I want to upgrade the tires.
I drive in everything from deep mud, very steep
hills with loose rock and of course pavement. It is stock engine and I know I can't go too much
larger then stock, but what is the largest and baddest tire I should be looking for?

Any help would be great!

If you want the "baddest" put a set of vampires on it that are the same height as the stock tires and one inch wider. This will give you pretty good traction in the mud but stay away from pavement or they will rattle the teeth right out of you head. As far as the "largest", i would stick with stock height. The King is a great machine but it gets the work done through gearing not raw power. If you start moving up in tire height you will find that you can not generate enough wheel spin to clean the lugs then you are stuck.

Best of Luck

We run Titan 489's on our '94 and '95 KQ's. Not quite as knobby as 589's, but more aggressive than stock so it's a good mix for trail and hardpack. They stand about 1" taller than stock. Fronts are a little wider, rear is a little narrower. All in all a big improvement over the OEM tire.

I think you could slap 25x10" vampires on there and get great traction with a lot less power loss. Wider rear tires would give better mud traction, but also would weigh down the engine more. The 10" wide tires on the rear would still give you the benefit of the large lugs and would be easier for the 300 class engine to pull. Just another thought. There a lots of combination that you could use. I think the Outlaw comes in a 25" tire as well.
