Default DID 520 X-Ring chain installation difficulty

I'm having a heck of a time installing my new chain on my ATC. I'm not able to get the slide plate to compress far enough to attach the clip on the masterlink.

Even with the masterlink removed from the chain, the slide plate will only fit in the link just a bit, before stopping. I cannot get the slide plate on enough to get the clip on...again, this is with the master off the chain!

I have an extra master and side plate and I still have this problem. Is this something unique to the X ring chain?

Take a small rattail file and file down the holes so that the plate will slide over the pins but dont ake too much off just enough so it will work.

I'll give that a shot. I'm going to hit the hardware store this AM. I find it odd that both master links and side plates have this problem. I wonder if DID had a bad manufacturing run of parts?

It worked perfectly. I picked it up Thursday after work and had the DID slide plate on before dinner. It litterally took about 3 minutes to get the new slide on. It took longer to position the press on the chain than it did to press the plate on.

Lesson learned: Get the correct tool(s) beforehand. $12 was a cheap price to pay to avoid that agrivation. I wish I had the press when I first tried to install the side plate.

Took me about 15 minutes, a big pair of channel locks, a set of vice clamps, and a hammer but I got it on. Pain in the ****. Where did you get the part? Have a part number or a place to get it from for me?

I got the part from my local Honda dealer. They're also a dealer for MotionPro.

Scroll down a bit to the picture of the red chain. The mini press is the one on the right of the photo.
