I am looking in the market to buy some new wheels and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for which way to lean to. I ride a 99 Scrambler and I am going to race it in a few of the GNCC races. Let me know what you think, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, first of all, I'm a little confused about your title fo this topic as bead locks don't necessarily substitute for after- market wheels, or vice versa. Bead locks are primarily used to prevent the tire from breaking from the bead in hard riding, hence the name. Alloy wheels ar used for weight reduction and cosmetic purposes, not necessarily for strength as your stock wheels are probably stronger anyway. If you have the cash and want the ultimate in protection you might look at the new Douglas Ultimate wheel with the billet center and integral bead lock. I don't recall the price off hand but they were in 3 figures EACH!
Also the new rims are a little tough to get right away, being a new design. You could check out their web site..don't recall if they gave prices or sizes or not.

I race the GNCC in the 250A class and can give you a little help. First off, I am going to assume that you have never raced any of the GNCC's before. Based on this and the type of bike you are going to ride, I would recommend that you stick with the stock wheel. Chances are that you will never have a problem with them. As previously stated, the beadlock only keeps the tire from coming off the bead. This is usually only a concern if you have a flat and have to continue to ride on the flat. As the previous post stated, stock wheels are as strong or stronger than most of the aftermarket wheels unless you go with the beadlocks. If you are set on getting beadlocks, stay away from the billet wheels. They do look good but they can allow rocks to get caught in the front caliper and lock up the wheel.
