Default Chain and Sprocket Differences.......

Hi guys......well a new sprocket(possibly chain too) is in my future......so my question is: What are the different types of sprockets(made from) and what are their advantages and disadvantages?? The same goes with the chain(520)......

I would just like some general info on the differences in sprockets and chains.......

Then, I would like to know what you think will best fit me for my application........I am planning on doing some xc racing next year, so I want something durable, yet somewhat light(as light as I can get it, and keep the durability)........

Thanks,
Brad

Steel is the way to go. Aluminum doesnt hold up, and Ti needs all ti components and you are looking at big bucks.

If I had the money to put in a sprocket set up..then I would go with sidewinder...they pretty much guarantee that if you buy a sidewinder then that will be the last sprocket you'll ever have to buy...they are pretty much the best in my opinion. So If I were you..I would go to there website and check them out.

My recommendation would be definitely get front and rear sprockets and new chain all at same time. Otherwise sprockets will wear faster with used chain. Also never put new chain on used sprockets. I would also get steel rear sprocket and forget about weight savings of aluminum. I have not seen much difference in top of line steel and low cost steel sprockets. I have also not seen much difference in premium O-ring chain and lower cost O-ring chain. Lots of guys claim premium Gold O-ring is worth extra cost. I don't think so but it sure looks nice.
