I have a 1986 Kawasaki Bayou 300 that needs tires. It currently has 24x11x10 rear tires. Not being wealthy I am looking at Titan 489 A/T and the Cheng Shin Wooly copy. I use the quad mostly for hunting and prospecting. Rocks, dirt, mud and some snow. Any comments good or bad?

 

Titans work GREAT... they are good for just about any terrain. My Scrambler came from the factory with Titan 489's and worked flawlessly.. I recently was forced by a large fragmented pipe to but 4 new tires. I ended up buying new Titans for the front and Bearclaws for the rear.
I would suggest that you hit the local Polaris dealers (whether you ride Polaris or not) and check out their new take-offs. I say Polaris because most of them come from the factory with Titans. I bought brand new Titans for the front of mine for $20 each!!..
The prices on new take-offs are ENTIRELY up to the guy behind the counter, so I would suggest going in and talking with them in person rather than a phone call.

The titans are a more rounded profile tire where as the woolys are more squared off. My guess would be that titans would be better in snow (like narrow truck tires) and the woolys would be better in mud. If I was putting thes on a quad, I would put titans up front and woolys in the rear. In your case, I couldn't make the decision really. We had wooly boogers on a 225 yamaha, and they lasted for years on pavement without wearing out bad. My uncle has 489s on his ac 454 and they have great traction and handle extremely well.

I have Vamps on the rear of my quad and 489's on the front. As you can tell, I do a lot of mud ridding. The titans hold up really well in the rough stuff as well as the mud. I haven't had a flat with them yet and I have had them for about 6 months. They really pull good in the mud and clean well too. I also ride with a friend who has the wooly's and they do ok until they clog up with mud and then you are stuck. The 489's will clog up too, but not nearly as ealily. I would but the 489's if I were you and the tires are about the same price from what I have seen.
