painting a muffler
#2
Look for a spray paint labeled "high heat".
Should be easy to find in flat black. Unless you want to get fancy and use an engine enamel...
Properly applied to a clean surface, either one will work nicely. We use these at work for painting our industrial boilers.

Faced with surface corrosion on a 12-year-old muffler, I approached the auto supply store parts counterman with the problem, can of engine enamel in my hand.
"If it's rusty, forget about it," the man said.
What does he know?
Quite a lot, actually. Didn't work with casual wire-brushing as the only surface preparation.
I believe "scanvanau" when he says, "Properly applied to a clean surface, either one [high-temp or engine enamel] will work nicely," with emphasis on CLEAN SURFACE.
Good luck.
