Removing Hub Studs '03 Cannondale Speed
#1
I have a cannondale '03 speed. I have had no real problems with it and it is very quick, but after riding it I decided it was a bit too narrow in the rear and was unstable as a result. I purchased a set of 2 1/2" Durablue wheel spacers for it, the kind that need for the studs to be removed from the hubs. The stock studs are STUCK in the hubs and after hours tapping/beating with a hammer I haven't been able to loosen one. I sprayed them with WD40 in hopes that it might loosen them but haven't had any luck. Suggestions?

Nevermind, I got it. Basically I just clamped it down and pounded on them as hard as I could until they came out. I finger-tightened a lugnut onto the stud before I pounded it down so the end didn't mushroom out. The first lugnut I used ended up getting all its threading stripped clean off before I knocked out the second stud. Both nuts I used are ruined, but thats a small price to pay to get out the studs. I initially tried the bolt type wheel spacers but they werent very true. Now all my Cannondales use the graphite lites with the easy fit stud extenders. Dead straight and easily removed. Dont worry about bending and axle unless you go for huge air. The stock short axles are stronger than most aftermarket ones.
