hello,

I have a friend that wants to put 9.5 Super Swamper SLT on the front of his 99 400 Xplorer on stock rims. The questions is, will the tires rub on the struts without a lift kit. Thanks for your reply.

bignasty i got 9.5 vamps on front on stock wheels and they didnt rub before i got a lift but it may catch tha bottom of the fender(by your feet) depending on the tire heighth. Might as well get a lift anyway though they are cheap and if it does rub get wheels spacers for tha front.

BigBear4x4,
Thanks for the reply. I'm going to have to tell my friend what I found out. I'm not sure if he wants to get a lift kit or not. But it is an option if he wants to go that wide. Either that or get a narrower tire. Thanks again.

My friend has a 99 400 Explorer and he has 27x10" Vampires on the front on stock wheels with no lift. The tire does come very close to the fenders in off camber situations but not close enough to rub anything. I don't think your friend will have any problems. I would suggest the lift though. The 400 Explorers can go most anywhere with a lift and a set of Vampires.

Yamahonda,
That's no lie. Me and my friend always go riding at his hunting club. Over there, it can really get bad. There were many places where he could go but I would always get stuck. He got a dealer to throw in a pair of 500 Sportsman rear tires and he put them on. I believe they do actually help. I can't wait to see it with some swampers on it. Thanks for the info
