400 EX rev limiter replacement
#1
I read some where Whites has an after market box that increases the rpm from 9000, 11,000 rpm. To those of you that have done this, is there a problem with over revving? Will the 4 stroke blow up at that high of an rpm? This sounds like a good mod if you can get the hp up a little to increase top end speed via rpm. Also does this limit the rpm to 11,000 or is that just the full capability of the 4 stroke motor?
Sorry guys I'm a 2 wheeler trying to cross over, I have no experience with 4 stroke bike motors.
Thanks.

My friend just got his rev eliminator for his 400 EX the other day.He also has a Big Gun exaust to go with it, but he had the exaust alot longer than the black box (eliminator). He said it has the power differance of night and day.He even said he has a hard time winding it out(5th gear he says it goes forever). He also claims it revs quicker and has 2-stroke characteristics, as he takes it through the gears.I myself cant believe it is this good, but he swears its the best.He might be trying to make it sound better than it really is ,so he feels he didnt waste his money.I haven't had a chance to ride with him since he got it,so I really dont know how much faster it is.I guess we will have to take his word.

I just did the black box mod on my 00 300ex, I did it the same time I did the pipe and air filter. So I wasn't sure how much of the peformance gain was the box. BUT my buddy just got a 99 300ex with a pipe and filter.
The difference is major! When I get on the throttle on his you can feel it rev up to a point and flatten out, 1st gear, 2nd gear just die out.
My bike with the box is so much more aggressive. It definately has more of a two stroke feeling! You just get so much more out of the machine...
except I also worry if It's bad for the motor, I know they put a rev limit on for a reason. Does anyone know for sure if it's terribly bad for the motor? I kinda figure I don't neeed the bike deciding when I shift, If I wanted that I would be ridin' an automatic! As long as I don't rev it out too much I figure all is well????? ps both bikes are also jetted properly.
