CV Joints---Why so EXPENSIVE!

Been looking into ATV's Can't believe the price of front axles. 4-500% more than a car! Is there a good reason (other than people pay it)? I understand economies of scale but this seems ridiculous.

My thoughts exactly. One of the Driveshaft shops here in town said they could make these for us very cheap if we could bring them a new one to use for prototyping. They said it would take several months to get the design, but after that we could get them whenever we needed them and cheap! This process would be required for each individual make and model, so you'd be best off getting all your buddies that ride the same machine as you to go in on it. Unfortunately no one I know has had the time or money to wait for this.
