Default sidewall tear

I have a small rip in the sidewall on my 589's. It is not leaking any air and the rip is about 1.5 inches long and about .25 inches at the deepest spot. I was wondering how thick the sidewall is and how to seal up the rip before dirt and sand get into it and make matters worse. I was thinking about maybe filling the crack with silicone. Can you buy something that will melt the rubber back together?

I dont know of anything to put in there to melt it together but you could always take the tire off and take some rubber from an acess tire and melt some of it off and stuff it in the tire while its still melted and hot. You probably dont want to deflate the tire because if you do it while its deflated then you fill it up and it expands then the rubber might separate from the rubber of the tire, unless you also melted the rubber on the tire that way all the rubber combined and dried back up at the same time.....

If you are worried that the sidewall might fail out on the trail, you could put a tube in it for a little added security.
