Default polaris struts install tip needed

I'm attempting to install some Kimpex pro gold struts on a '93 Polaris 350 4X4 that I bought this week. Regretfully, I never measured where the old struts were. The struts are in place now, but there's about 2 inches before the spring is touching the upper mount. Should I put some pressure on the assembly so the spring is compressed , then tighten the two lower bolts?

the idea you have wont do any good!!the 2 housing bolts has nothing to do with keeping the strut compresses, they just clamp the strut cartridge so it wont come out of the housing..sounds like you bought struts for a newer polaris with longer front suspension travel..
