Opinions on tires?
#1
I have a Polaris 500 h.o. sportsman (2002) It has the factory tires on it now(goodyear rawhides I believe) . I'm looking to get new tires in spring and want to know what type and size will work best for me . My current tires are 25 inches. I ride mostly in mud / fields /ditches/gravel/snow. Any ideas would be welcome.

Wow if he rides mud then that instantly throws out the radial idea...(do you guys know how radials perform in mud?)
Need a better idea of what percentage you ride stuff in? Would help to give you a better idea of what you need.

I would give the mud lights a look too. I would get 26"s, though people say they wear funny. I'm gonna try the mud bugs a size bigger than my lights, for my next tire. Opinions on the mud bug anyone?

With the Sportsman you can definately go up to a 26" tire with no ill effects (maybe a slight accelaration loss but probably negligible) and a nice gain in traction and ground clearance. The Mudlite XTR would be a good choice for what you've described. My buddy has them and he loves them. He said they are much better than his old 589s.

WOW! Thanks for all the replies ! As I said before, the area I ride in is a mixed bag of tricks(read: prairies) that involves ; sand/gravel/ grass /mud/ snow(in winter)/forest/ditches etc.
The thing that interests me most is the ditch driving . Witch involves alot of water and "gumbo"(sticky mud). So I'm hoping this thing goes through water without the tranny slipping and I'm hoping it can plow through the mud I encounter.
