Default Getting un-stuck with nothing to hook onto?

I've wanted to get a winch for awhile now but if I get stuck in a creek with no trees how can I get it out without having a truck or something so pull off of. Is there any kind of stake they sell that I could use if I would get stuck that I could winch off of. btw I have got stuck twice in our one creek once stock and once with 26" vampires the tires cleaned out but I was hung up the second time. thanks.

I had the same concern. So, I made a little thingy for those situations. I took a steel bar and bent a loop on the end and welded it down. Then bent the other side down and welded a plow from a cultivating tractor to it. Check out my picture page. It works pretty good and was easy to make.

If the ground can be dug with a shovel, then yes, there is a product. I think it's called a "Winch Anchor" or
something like that. It's like a folding shovel that adjusts to different positions so that you can dig a hole
and the set it like an anchor and attach it to your winch. My brother got one for the same reason you described.

Look at, Montanajacks.com and look under new products.

Sorry dude, it's patented I'm kidding, of course. Go for it, it was pretty easy to do.

That Montanta Jacks thing is cool, but $87.90??? They seem to have nice stuff, but they are awlful danged pricey.

Yeah, it's alot of $$. My brother got his at a sportsman show for $39.00 about a year ago.
I think it was before they were on the market but not positive.

This has happened to me a couple of times. I got in the habit of keeping an old axle and sledge hammer in the bed of the truck when I go riding. You should be able to pickup an old axle for a little bit of nothing. Good Luck

i have seen a device for sale for jeeps like that . called a "land anchor" maybe do a google search and see a few. i sometimes carry a climbing anchor made for snow (very lightweight) that i could use as a deadman anchor, with a little work. (i try to watch weight pretty closely)

That plow/anchor is pretty neat, the old trick of a steel bar and sledge works too. Another trick is to dig a "T" shaped hole with the bottom leg pointed at the stuck vehicle. Wrap the winch line around a sturdy limb and put it across the top of the "T". I have pulled some badly burried pickups out using this trick but it requires quite a bit of digging which can be tough if you don't have a shovel.

EDIT: I just looked at this after posting it. For some reason the word "tough" has been turned into a link to a Polaris site. Anyone know why this happened?

yea, it does that for everyone here. it is an advertising plug and i don't really like it. it is like they are trying to make everybody here look like polaris fans. i use the word "tuff" now.
