Default Is Radial always better?

I've been looking for tires and wheels for some time and with all that I have read I was always leaning toward Radial tires however many times when I visit the local shops and look at some the the bikes that come with stock radial tires they always seem to be such a hard tire. It looks as though when you are riding over rough terrain the mushy bias ply tires would conform to the ground better than the radial. I can see on flat ground or roads how the tighter radial would handle better. I'm curious how those who have ridden both types in different terrains feel about them. I've never ridden an atv with radial tires.

I will be switching to radial next because my stock bias ply tired tend to roll when in off camber turns and from I've read the radials have even more traction. Not sure about the hardness issue. Anyone with radials care to comment?
