Default Shock Swap

Brakes , Bearings, tires, choke cable, and new seat cover done on a 96 Timberwolf I picked up for my daughter to trail ride. I forget how easy these older smaller bikes are to work on. Last little bit of tinkering I would like to try is a better shock/spring combo on the rear. Even adjusted firm the 16" assembly on Timberwolves and Wolverines are a bit wimpy. Even if I could find a performance shock aftermarket, I am not looking to race or jump. I was wondering if there is a better 16" stock shock out there that would work. Also, any draw backs someone sees, let me know. Thanks
