Default Mud Lite directional tire

I was pleased with the forward traction of my new Mud Lite AT tires when compared to OEM tires on my Honda Foreman. There was no comparison with grip and it is far more difficult to kick out the rear tires. In reverse, however, it was like riding on marbles. I would appreciate some insight on this from people who have owned this tire. In addition, the majority of my riding consists of mountain trail with occasional mud. The optimal tire for me would be ok in the mud but have enough contact patch to conform to tricky terrain on uphill climbs. This would require a soft rubber compound that is puncture resistant. The Mud Lite AT is a popular tire in my region. Is there a better all terrain tire or did I find the best compromise? Any insight would be appreciated.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm also considering the HL Outlaw MST's though. The Mudlites seem to be a love 'em / hate 'em tire. If I go w/ them it'll be the XL's .
