Will 2 different brand tires work on 4x4
#1
I have a 05 yamaha 350 wolverine 4x4 with all 23" stock tires on 12" rims. I have 4 new extra tires set aside in the basement never used mounted on 8" rims. Two tires are blackwater 22x12.5x8 and the others are Maxxis sur trac 22x10x8. If the bolt pattern is the same do you see any problem with me using two different brand tires for a 4x4. A 22" tall tire is a 22" tall tire, right? dave

That's what I THOUGHT. If you read the post below "mudlites on stock rims" you'll find that isn't always true. My 25" Mudlites do not measure anywhere near 25".

No not all tires from different manufactures measure the same. I would not recommend mixing and matching tires. You can mount them, fill them up and take a tape measure to measure the circumfrence of the tires to see if they are close.

Thanks for your imput on tires. I'll use them for something else. Maybe make a trailer to haul supplies on the trail or build a go-kart. I don't want to chance messing up my 4x4. Thanks again for the good help. dave

Don't mix them on the same axle. You can run different sizes as long as both rear tires are the same and both front tires are the same! I would run thr 22x10's on front and the 22x12.5's on the rear!

On a 4x4 (like the 350 Wolverine) that was designed to run tires of the same circumference on all 4's, you better make sure that you keep it that way when changing tires. Keeping the same brand / type of tire on the same axle is important for handling reasons, but with different types front and rear you have to make sure the circumference is the same as well...

I run different brands front and back, but the diameters match the OEM diameters. Some manufacturers run tall and some short of stated diameter. Plus rim-width can affect tire height. Would think you could run them as long as they coincide (1"shorter front, 1" shorter back) with current/factory heights, especially with 4WD.
