I am looking to upgrade my tires and wheels and I would like to hear your opinions on tires.
I have a Big Bear 350 2x4 and do mostly desert trail riding and sand dunes.
The stock Dunlops work surprisingly well in the dunes and on the trail but are showing their age.

I think I have limited my choice to one of 2 tires.

I have read a lot of good things about the ITP Holeshot ATRs and I am thinking that they might the tire for me.

I have also heard pretty good things about the Maxxis AllTrak Tires.

They will probably be 25 or 26x12 in the rear.

I would especially like to hear from owners of either of these tires that have used them in the sand and how they wear on rock trails.

 

i would ask reconranger it sounds like his type of riding.

 

I'm interested in hearing about the AllTrack's also. I was told at the bike shop that they are only 2 ply tires so they might not hold up to the rocks out here in New Mexico.

I typically only ride my Ranches in the mountains, and not the desert, but here is what my desert experiences have been---

I ran the ATR's for quite a while. In 4wd they have great traction. The front tires are absolutely superb, but in 2wd the backs are not very good in the sand or hardpack, because the traction blocks are very widely spaced.

Got to say that I have gone back to the stock tires on both my Ranchers. The ATR's would tend to fight me sometimes in 4wd (probably because of the large offset rims).....it felt like the front had lockers and you had to wrestle with the handlebars the whole time. It just ruined the sweet handling of the little Ranchers......

I am saving the ATR's for the snow though. They are an absolutely superb snow tire!
