07 Grizzly 660 - Pressure washed it after some mudding and now one of my axle boots looks like a balloon. I assume that it is full of water from the pressure washer. How do I get it out?

 

pull the axle off, break the band, completely clean the joint, repack and replace the band. you do not want any water in there and be sure you do not have a tear or hole. axles are not cheap.

and never use a pressure washer to clean an atv (or motorcycle), it just washes out grease and forces water in everything.

 

Can I purchase the band without purchasing the boot? Can I pick this up at the dealer? Thanks for the help.

 

my advice is to call a dealer or check someone's online microfiche. I just bought kits as my Arctic Cat was always suffering from ripped boots. I would think yes, but check with your dealer. I'd go the for large band, you should be able to leave the small band on an roll the boot back over it. If it is the inner joint, you may be able to get at it without removing the axle. A dealership or maybe an auto parts store might have a fast-boot kit. Cheaper than the actual manufacturer's part. I replaced 2 on my 660 one time. (one was torn and I had to take both off to do the 1, so I did both). $25 for the new boot kit when I did it ($50 total). I'm sure some auto parts place would have access to be able to get just the clamps.

 

The Yamaha factory bands are pretty slick - you do not need a tool to install them! I had to buy the KD tool for tightening the CV boot bands as I didn't buy a Yamaha boot kit but a Moose kit. The bonus there is the Moose boot is stronger (rubber) than the Factory Yamaha...
