What are some of the riders thoughts on studding the 4 tires on your atv for ice riding? Did it on my dirt bike and worked great!

This was a topic just a few weeks ago and several people felt that if done correctly it is great. I am think of doing it to my stock tires if I have enough tread left by the time I finally decide what tires to get to replace them.

UrsuI cnat find that old topic on the studding. What heading was it under. What is the best way to stud them, all 4 or just fronts or rear, what are they using for studs? On my bike I used self-tapping 1/4 hexheads. When summer comes, out they come.

These studs are not the same as in a car tire. I used self-tapping hexhead screws on my bike.Come summer took them out. Just wondering on a pattern for an atv tire.

I use them on my TRX 250R. I have spider trac's and I use about 700 ice studs in them. It is very easy to do by yourself. Just need a power drill and some time. Take's about an hour a tire. Pretty much any pattern works. Try to think how your tire is going to grip the ground and put the studs there. Ot follow the pattern of the tire. They do work awesome. I was clocked doing 70 this weekend on the lake. I also use about 200 studs in the front tires for turning purposes. But be carefull. Thiese studs are expensive so if you ride on road with them or screw around and burn out it will kill them. They usally run about $15 for 250. Make sure you use the right size screws so you don't go through your tire.

Studding your stock tires are fine for play riding but don`t expect them to do anything serious. The side walls are not stiff enough and you tend to a lot of 2 wheelin in the corners. HTH

I can't remember the topic title I did a quick search and can't find it either. Anyway I wouldn't do it to tires that you plan on taking the studs back out of. It seems there might be too many weak spots in the tires after removing the studs.
