Default z400 shocks

I dont have the manual and was wondering if the front and rear shocks are adjustable on a 2003 z400 and if so how do i go about doing so. As of now their a bit stiff for rocky trails. thanks.

The fronts are only pre-load adjustable on the 03/04 models..... the rear should have pre-load, compression and rebound......... there are adjusters on the rear shock at the top and bottom..... turn the adjusters all the way to the RIGHT and then back them off 1/2 to 1-full turn at a time until you get a desired stiffness....... usually 1/2 is soft enough for most riders but if you are light you can back them off until there is only 1/4 turn left......

On the shock tuning the screw right is stiff and left is soft........

My guess is that if it feels harsh at low speeds then your pre-load it too stiff...... to adjust that you need to twist the flange cuffs at the top of the springs..... you need to loosen them so the spring is not compressed as much...... they make a special tool for this, but you can do it with a large flathead screwdriver and a hammer....... I use brake tool I have for cars that works great to turn the flange, and a rubber mallet......

BTW you can usually get an electronic version of the z400 manual on ebay.....
