I'm planning on sticking with the factory size. Although the bigger tires would help overcome what god didn't want me to have. I've never bought tires for an atv before so this is a new game for me. I have a serious issue with over researching every purchase I make though. Hence asking simple questions.

You can change tires to improve quality, toughness and traction, without changing the tire's size.

That's what I'm after. I think I'm going to worry less about the weight and more about what traction will fit my needs. Right now I'm leaning towards the bighorns.

So do you think then its best that if my 500 came with 25 inch tires I should not change to 26 ?

I thought to improve quality, toughness and traction you need to go to a larger tire as the 26 and up give you the larger lugs .</end quote></div>
I bought the 25" 6 ply ITP Mudlites XLs with the larger 1-1/8" lugs, muck larger lugs than what a stock 25" tire has.
Even the regular Mudlite ATs have a decent 3/4" lug thats a improvement over stock tires.
They come in all sizes.
My friend bought small 24" tires made by "Swamp Witches" but even though there only small 24" tires they are still 6 ply with large 1-1/8th" lugs.

I replaced the tires on my wifes Kodiak with Titan 589's(old style)I went with the same size which still probably weigh half as much again as the stock tires. No noticable power loss, much improved high speed handling and the increase in traction is amazing. They appear to be as tough as nails as well.

the stock tires alone on my 07 kq 450 they were 25s they weighed about 6 pounds a piece i bought 27 inch carlisle mud wolf tires and they weighed 40 pounds a piece the stock tires were two ply and the new ones are 6 ply. If you go bigger and heavier i would suggest a clutck kit.
