You need to take it to a repair shop and have them change the crank bearings, lower and upper rod bearings. The fact that you rode it in mud tells me that you sucked some mud or water into the engine and toasted the bearings. This is not a cheap or easy repair! Expect to pay big bucks if you have a 4-stroke! I think that the price just to split the cases is about $250 and then you have to pay to have the crank rebuilt and all the bearings. You better have about $450 lying around somewhere. Sorry about your luck!

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of the bearings need to be replaced just yet. Have you emptied the air box, checked the oil (see if their is water in it), pull the plug, and see if any water or dirt is inside? You may of just swallowed some water, and the plug is not firing correctly. May want to do a compression check also, if the compression is still good, the bearings are probably ok too. It would take a decent amount of water to mess the bearings up that quickly. I doubt it. But check the\is stuff out first, you might of gotten lucky.

ok, i checked the oil and the air box, there wasnt any water standing in it, but the bottom was damp. When i checked the oil, it was at the bottom of the window, so i added just enough to get it to the top 3/4 of the window and it has stopped knocking. But......when it starts, i cant hit the gas because it dies, and i have to barely push in the throttle in and sometimes it still dies, it seems like its not getting enough gas, so i made an appointment at the shop and they r going to change the oil, and clean the air filter. so i dont really know what to do with it now...........it is still under warrenty if that will help, but i doubt it

Im assuming this is a Bayou 220 you are talking about. I also have one. When you added oil, was the engine hot or cold? If it was hot, the oil level will appear less than it really is. The only way you can be sure how much you have is wait till the engine is cold, and fill it to where all you can see is black. Be careful not to overfill, only put just enough to where the whole thing turns black. Hope this helps..
