St. Anthony Dune Update
#1
Just got home from St Anthony Dunes. We rode Friday and all day Saturday.Dunes were dry and most of the bumps in dunes from the rain are smoothing out compared to a few weeks ago. There is no Camping in the Egin Lake Campgrounds due to construction. All the people Camping at the Egin area were camping way back before the Egin Lake turnoff in a windy Desert (looked miserable).Of course you could still stay at Sand Hills Resort but personally i dont care for the long ride to get to the bigger dunes. We stayed in a Motel in Rexburg and drove to Dunes in the mornings.Made our stop by Rexburg Motor Sports and once again was blown away at the GREAT Customer service. If you need Paddles or anything for your Quad you will be very happy with Rexburg Motor Sports.Bobby one of the guys in service let me take his Suzuki Z400 with a 430 Big Bore (i think he said) and i was blown away..... VERY IMPRESSIVE Quad. After riding a Z 400 i am definatelly am impressed.Dunes were VERY windy.Saw a few KFX 700's,Predators,and a few Ds's at Choke Cherry Hill.Although none of them tried Choke when i was there. There was a few Banshees making Choke look like a joke as usual. My buddys Piped Raptor with Haulers could only make it 3/4 up Choke(probably because he weighs 240# LOL).There was a 440EX with Geckos in our group that surprising me made it also 3/4 of the way up.There was a 900 CBR Powered Quad that was shifting gears UP and accelerating up the hill...AWESOME.I tried my Extreme Haulers 8 Paddle and they are an AWESOME tire.Love em!!!
All you guys claiming that Devils dune is as steep as Choke......not quite...Choke is a steep *** hill that is way longer then it seems once you start climbing it.Anyway it was great fun and i cant wait to go back in 3 weeks. late, zubbeyboy

Thanks for the update - it seems to be taking a little longer this year for the dunes to get dried/smoothed out. I'll be there 4th of July weekend - can't wait.
Chokechery is a tough hill especially earlier in the year when it isn't rounded off at the top. This time of the year that last 75 feet or so are tough since is is a little steeper there. Still, I think it's easier to climb that than Devil's dune becasue Devil's Dune has the razorback at the top. You sure can get get a good run at Devil's though. So tell me, Mr. Lateralus, how did that sweet looking 370 powervalved Honda do out there? Go ahead, make me feel humble. My little weenie 250 Suzuki will actually make it up Choke cherry hill, but I couldn't get all the way up Devils dune. This weekend I shall try again!!! Shady

I wa there too. It was a windy b%$#@ the whole weekend. Friday was a joke, saturday was ok, and sunday was ok too, but still windy. We ended up over at mean Genes, since the Egin lakes was closed. The ride is a little longer, but I was not going to stay in that field Lateralus was talking about. We crusied to Choke Cherry and Devils Dune on sat morn. I could not make it up Choke on my ex( about 3/4), but I only tried once and didn't get a run and just went around, I was having fuel problems (like I was about to run out, and I had a 45 min ride to get more) I was also messing with gearing and never got satisfied , I think I need a 40 tooth rear, I aslo needed to air up, that sand was very soft. I ran up it with my ladies ride and had no problem, but I learned from my earlier mistake and got a better run, I started at the very bottom. My brothers 250 screamed up the hill, very impressed, espicially after seeing a few other 250r's come up short. He pulled it in 3rd gear! There was one of those W-Tec with a 650 husaberg motor in it, he could climb it no problem, not too fast but he had no problems. there was also a yellow DS that was cruising up that hill too!.
All in all it was nice even though it was windy. The sand is just about ready. It should be way nice next weekend!
ENJOY!
