Not sure if everyone had heard about this or not. Very, very, very sad thing. I shared this story with my 9year old daughter who rides the dunes with me, then gave her a big hug... Please everyone, ride safe! My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this little boy.

This stuff saddens and ticks me off at the same time.

I remember seeing the ambulance heading out there and what seemed like 1/2 the Rangers.

I believe that makes for 3 fatalities for July this year.

If someone gave that teen alcohol (remember those of you under 21 (or if you have a commercial DL), a BAC of .01 is considered to be legally drunk in CA.) I hope that they are held responsible for giving this kid alcohol and contributing to the death of a child.

My thoughts are with the boy's (victim) family and friends. The 17 y/o can rot for all I care.

yea ,i got a ticket for doing wheelies on the beach, may noy be the kids fauld but the parents need to watch those kids, ther are huge trucks trying to drive out with out going into the ocean, then you have kids playing in the middle of the beach,i know it's a beach but is also used to get cars from point A to B,so you would think that the kids should go down the beach a little more to play ,but no they are right in the mddle of the road...When the tide comes up it;s even worse...

Prayers go out to the family..

I was there last weekend and saw the ambulance heading out (I'm assuming it was for the accident). We were camped right passed Pole 5 and seen a ranger in a Ram trying to get back into the dunes and several others went down the beach towards 6. I don't know where it happened. It was a complete Cluster F if you know what I mean. People were having a hard time getting to our camp (slightly more in than the Poles) because people kept parking and blocking the "driveways".

People do definately need to keep a watch on their kids out there. We were having a tough time keeping the kids in our group from playing on a track right next to our camp. It didn't help that people would still fly around the track and not pay attention. Now I see why people rope off large areas for the kids to play in. I would hate to have seen it if someone came flying around that track on a 300-400lb quad (plus rider) and missed a corner. Those kids were about 3-10.

I would really like to find out more of what happened and where it happened.

As far as the kids going down the beach to play, that probably won't ever happen. Parents don't seem to be interested in driving the kids the several miles north to play (I've never been north of the Pier Ave entrance). You still end up with cars down there. And you can't get into the closed areas even on foot.

My pet peave from last weekend is people with the nice HD trucks w/ 4 wheel drive who park right at the water line. You've got 4 wheel drive, air it down and get off the dang water line. Mine friend can pull a 28' toy hauler out past the bathrooms and he's completely stock ('03 F350 non-dually V-10).

On another note, anyone help out 2 young females in a red Mustang with a hitch that kept getting stuck? Saw her buried 3 times in 30 minutes. Low profile tires and they couldn't have been aired down.

Apparently it is still under investigation... and they are not releasing any details yet since there is a minor involved. Very, very sad.....
