Depends if he is gonna use a new chain or not. A new chain is $50-$75, while the sprocket is only $15. If he is just gonna ad links and another master link(wich I dont practice or recommend) then that will be cheaper. But who knows, maybe he needs a new chain and this is a good excuse to get one.
Whatever, his time and money

Ltsrfaster the best thing to do is just experiment. You are from Utah and so you must be talking about the Mtn. Gearing up by taking a few off in the rear can work to your advantage also depending if your rapping it out in second or things like this.. Your type of paddle also matters. A 21 tire is gonna hillshoot/drag better then a 20" tire. 20's are better for duning as they don't sit as high and don't tend to make the quad want to roll in the corrners..There is no hill at Glamis that comes close in size to Sand Mtn. There OA dunes sizes are the same as ours. We are at 5000ft and that must be considered also. What works at Glamis or Dumont may not work here due to power loss by elevation... Good luck.

Just got back form little sahara last night --- Great weekend at the dunes it rained friday night, was nice and cool sat sand was great!!!

Thanks for the input guys.. I am going to try the bigger rear for now even though I will need a longer chain, the stock one is streching pretty quick so not a big deal. this is for my gas gas 300 so i still have limited options on what gearing is available. Im really just trying to get more tourqe for hill climbing and keep the 22" tires couse it is rapping out in 2nd on the gut of sandmountian when it should easily pull third with a small change. Is ther a rule on links to add per thooth on the sprockett?
