choke cherry

Remember that Chokecherry is harder in the early part of summer. The more people ride up and down it the more it gets knocked down at the top. In the early part of the year the last 1/4 is th toughest and steepest. Try it in May then in September and you will know what I mean - big difference.

Wyo is way right. By the end of the season that hill has a lot of the top sand spit out towards the bottom and the main chute is knocked down a lot. Even at the start of the year Choke Cherry has a lot of sand towards the bottom and isn't as steep as the parts of that wall to the right and left. Big hill either way though.

When I first rode to choke, I came to it from the bottom. Once I realized I had found the hill, I started looking around to see how you get a run at the thing. If yer drag'n somebody up that hill there ain't no runup. Gas, whoops, steep. The minute you're on the gas, you're through the little whoops and on the hill. No starting pit/bank there.
Torque and the front end down is the only way to get up that hill fast. The ride there is just as good as the hill if not better. Depending on how you ride, you could take quite a while to get back there.

Well I think the 5 chutes on the the left side of the face of sand mountain UT are bigger and badder than choke cherry. I drove 4 hrs to Idaho expecting a challenge, but didn't get one. On the other hand, if you try to go up cherry to the far left or right off the main path, it's steeper and more challenging. And the St Anthony dunes are just plain cool.

Typically when I hit Sand Mountain early in the morning, those are the first thing I run - kinda like making tracks in virgin powder - just going the wrong way. Plus, my Thunder Alley pipe wakes all the campers down below.
