when is snake hunt?

 

Snake Hunt is always the first weekend after Easter. I've never heard of them releasing snakes on the dunes. The countryside is crawling with them around there, and people go out and hunt for the dens. There are a lot more than 100 rounded up each year. It's more like several hundred. One guy that lives in town has been bitten at least twice each hunt for the past twelve years. Does it stop him? Let's just say he'll probably get his two bites again this year, too.

 

Thanks for the correction. I was told that's what they did there. I guess they were wrong! Sorry to give the wrong impression. As many times as I have been out there (which is a lot) I have to say that I haven't seen any snake dens NOR desire too! Maybe thats because Im too busy jumping dunes instead of looking in cracks. A group of us from the Central Oklahoma Atv Club will be going to little sahara march 27-28 , so if you see any of us with the shirts on come by and say hi, we might even fix you a hot dog and a beer.

 

I just got back from first trip to Little Sahara. Very few people there, we stayed all weekend. The night rides were cold but not many people so the dunes were wide open seat of the pants ridin. We had 3 trailers with 4 shees,raptor,polaris 500"PoleCat",my lonely 250R,cr125,2-2 seater 1875vw sandrails. Out of all the bikes the ol' polecat did'er share of the work.

On sat. we took a night ride in the rails, my first time in the dunes. we started a 10pm and got back to the camp at 2am. before we started my buddy said tonight shouldnt be the night he took his dads rail. Someone said watch the peaks at night, well maybe on a bike but we flew over peaks in the pitch black on the rails. we were flyin probally 35-40 hit a dune and flew bout 10' in the air land hard on my side and put a 2" crack in a 15" rim plus squared it were it wouldnt roll past the caliper, it took the other rail and the polecat to get back to camp. we woke up sun. went to town to buggy shop next to a store, they were closed so we looked him up in the phone book called him and he was there in 15min to get us new paddle tire and rim $$$$ but we were good to finsh the day!

I like to be prepared but had no idea what to bring. first four wheeler since i was 6 lt50 3 wheeler. I have 2 tanks thru my R and luv it. The trails and switchbacks were killer it was a rush, never done anything like it. Wish i had 26yrs practice ridin cuz id like ta smoke my buddys on there shees, i know my 250R can run w/ 'em tell me it can? I'm think sleeper so give me some advice its 87 stock bore and would like to work up. Probally Take it to sandtrax???

BRING $$$$,BIKES,FUEL,TOOLS"2 STROKERS",PARTS,PADDLES,TOW STRAP,AND MORE $$$$
AND googles"had to borrow some"
WHO NEEDS QUARTERS"SHOWERS" OR CLEAN CLOTHES
o YEAH IM TAKE EAR PLUGS TO KEEP SAND OUT NEXT TIME.
MAKE SURE YOUR LIGHTS WORK CUZ ITS KILLER AT NIGHT"MAG LIGHTS DUCT TAPPED TO YOUR BARS DONT COUNT".

I think I just realized who you are. Do you have a bunch of brother or buddies that you ride with. One of them has a 440ex, a couple of them have bombs, and one has a prairie. I think you were one of the guys I rode with over at Lake Murray. The guy with the 440ex had just got the 440 kit put in and he was taking it easy.

 

Im trying to get a group to come up then. Will there be alot of people there that weekend of March 27 &28?

 

RapperI dont know how many will be there on the 27th and 28th .There will be atleast 15-20 of us there at that time. I just hope the weather will hold out then , this will be my third attempt for little sahara. Too cold, raining, work, but this time aslong as its not raining 100% both days i will be there no matter what
