Default need help

i need help on how to build a mini dune machine. if anyone has any go-kart experience im sure they will know what im trying to do. i am going to attempt to build a ST2 frame from here: http://badlandbuggy.com/ST2.html . if you notice its not a strait axil. and i dont know what to use for something like this i know i can get the u-joints i think its called but what about the main part that connects to the motor?

also i want to get a 500 cc motorcycle engine and put that in there. but i also want to have a standard transmission too, i know some on you street racers have this. how is this done exactly, i dont know if you can go from 5th gear right to nutral or if you have to click through all the gears like on a street bike or dirtbike. i think if i can get this engine an transmison worked out and find out how much it will cost me i might get the plans. so far i added it all up and its going to cost me about 400 dollars.

last but not least, i dont want to use a chain and sprocket. thats basically the reason for me not wanting to build the other go-karts. anyone? thanks for your help

You will still need a chain-drive from the engine to the axle. They use them on the ST2 if you look closely. They use 1" keyed u-joint yokes and 1" bar with a 1/4" keyway. I have a custom buggy myself, but I used a swingarm type rearend. I havent figured out a cheap and simple enough way to make a independant rear setup yet, by that I mean one that wont require expensive machinework or parts that arent readily available. But, im working on it, I plan on making another buggy soon, using a LTZ400 powerplant this time.
The buggy I have now is powered by a 300ex, and is a BLAST to ride. It will go everywhere my 4-wheelers will go, and climbs like a goat.
