juniper forest
#3
Hey rydr16,
I've been there a couple times. Juniper is a really nice place to ride. It is 7000 acres of sandy desert trails with a few good sized dunes and is completely surrounded by farmland. There are two staging areas, I would recommend going to the second staging area, it will put you closer to the main riding areas.
There are no facilities and no water there, so make sure you bring a lot of water and whatever else you need. You can camp where ever you want.
The best times to ride are in the early spring and in the fall. In the summer the temp averages 100+ degrees. Also in the summer there are these nasty giant carnivorous crickets from about June through August. They are really freaky. If you stop your quad on the trail, they will all come out from the sage brush and start chewing on your tires and try to bite you. And no, I am not making this up!
It is quite windy down there, so watch out for razor backs.
The only road in, is a private road. Make sure you are courteous and drive slow, the owners have closed this road before.
Oh! I almost forgot, make sure you put away all of your supplies and keep pets inside at night. There are lots of coyotes out there.
Let me know if you need directions.
