Default Which paddles for DS

Hi i have a set of 20"sandstars on order from rocky m which were to go on my 250r and then my 450r when i got one
But for varios reason i am now in the proccess of selling the 250 and buying an 04 ds

I dont need max hook up i dont drag race and our max dune hight is around 150 feet i need the abilaty to turn quickly and slide above all others.

but i have no expiriances of a ds i have never seen one run at the beach

So objective opinions please

Since the DS is on the heavy side you need larger tires, 21" or 22" Sand skate 1's (21") or skat trak edges (22") 8 paddle, I still have 2 pair of skate 1's that I no longer use PM if interested, photo's of skate 1's here

The Sand Skate II's also get good reviews. I know they work well on a Banshee, for what it's worth.

I ordered my bike this morning and r mountain have my order on hold so far so good , i read a bit about using 22"s and that it would cause the bump steer to get worse. is this the case and do the 04 bikes suffer the same problem as i see they have differant upper a arms.

And also would the 22" sand stars be ok as they are a bit cheaper than the sand tyres unlimited stuff and i have just paid for a new bike toy funds are low (I know because the wife has said so)

The 22" sand tires that everyone is referring to are for the rear, not the front. But to answer your question a lot of the DS steering issues were fixed with the introduction of the 02 Baja model when they changed the upper A-arms.

For drag racing 22" Haulers are the ticket.
For all around fun go withe 22" ITP Sand Stars or Sand Skate II's.

Sand Stars are OK tires. The paddles are "Molded" and are more subject to chunking than the buffed and glued paddles. I think the money you save will be soon spent on a replacement set of tires if they chunk out like most molded tires that are weaker at the tall points (Paddle). I read your description of where you ride in Scottland and it sounds like you may need a more durable tire. Remember, the DS is alot of torque and that is harder on the tires than the smaller cc bikes. IMO.

Thanks for the info guys

I know the tires were for the rear but wass under the possibly false impression that raiseing the hight of the rear axel would also effect the bump steer, Any way if it was fixed in 2002 it wont matter, how about the gearing will i still be ok stoc kwith 22" rears on or will ineed to change sprockets ?

I will try and get some pictures when i get home from work next time that will be in around a month and i will have to beg borrow or worse still even buy a digital camera, its time i joined the 20th century any way
