#1
Hey does anyone know of any places to stay at florence, Dune access is a must , all i know of is honeyman and driftwood both of those arent possible tho, or any places to get out on the sand and camp but it would have to be easy enough for a 2 wheel drive vehicle to get out. any help would be awesome

We always camp at Driftwood.. I've seen some rustic camps set up towards the end of the road that leads to the dunes from the campground...but I don't think I'd take a honda civic through those whoops though...or maybe I would...
I'm assuming Driftwood is already filled up, or you'd go there? You may have to stay in a hotel...

All's I remember is some sand camps towards the end of that "whoop road." They were on the west side of the road. You can forget about sleeping in, I'll be driving by your tent at about 30 mph.
If you have a full sized truck, you MIGHT make it out there...though, I don't think I would take ANY 2WD vehicle out there that doesn't have paddles or at least chains...I got stuck once in a Jeep, in 4WD even, and I was only in about 8 inches of sand. Sad yes, but highway tires, and pulling a trailer mixed with over confidence can lead to trouble... "Hey yall, watch this!"
You'll have to check out regulations of sand camping. I think the only drawback is that you CANNOT drink, regardless of whether or not you will be riding. You can only have beer or whatever in a designated camp site. Kindof a stupid rule I think. I mean, they have no way of keeping idiots that get smashed at their campsite and go riding off the dunes...if only everyone could just have a LITTLE common sense, we wouldn't have to have these rules. At least it keeps the dunes cleaner I guess. I'd hate to run over a broken bottle...
If you can't go a whole weekend without beer, make friends with someone at the campground I guess...you could stand at the entrance to the campground with a cardboard sign that says: "Free beer. " I imagine you will make quite a few friends.

Did you consider going a little further south? To Winchester or N.Bend? I have better luck finding a last minute spot down there. DW 2 and Honeyman usually fill up first because they are closer to the PD metro.
Oh, the alcohol on the dunes rule was created to keep the mess more contained in the campsites. If you have ever seen Glamis, thats the reason why. Seems if there is no place to dump, those that partake outside the campsites leave alot of garbage behind. Pack it in, pack it out! (sadly doesnt apply to some).
Makes it harder on the rest of us that ARE responsible!
I hope you have a good time.
Be safe!
