Yes, you can get chrome parts, etc. for the rappy a little easier but, the 660 engine, tranny, carbs, crank. . . don't hold a candle to the DS engine.
The DS engine / tranny can take over 100HP RELIABILY! I wouldn't put 60HP to the Raptor without putting a new connecting rod in and thinking every time I shifted the gears.
The Raptor will always sell more than the DS because of the Yamaha name but, for the dunes and desert, the DS is a better choice!

Shee's are great for shootin' the hills but, they are a red-sticker bike in CA (Pismo and Glamis). They haven't been enforcing it too much yet, but, you're rollin' the dice if you look to buy one now.
I assumed he was looking at a 4-stroke because of his original question.
For the trails and for Pismo I think a 4-stroke is a better choice. Further, for that kind of riding a 400EX is enough power. Glamis, Sand Mt., and Dumont you'll want a big bore or one of the new 450 class. Just make sure you are comfortable.
I won't go on and on any further. Do a search and I think you'll find some common statements. No bashing or BS just overall honesty about what each unit is good for.

I love my raptor and wouldent change it for the world...
i wouldent trust any bikes internals if i was pushing over 60 Hp you should beef it up just to be safe...
If you do it right there shouldent be a problem..
I have seen fast raptors and fast Ds bikes so it's really what is your preference...
they are both great bikes and have there advantages..

you should sell your blaster and buy a banshee they mod better than 4-strokes ( well not better but 2-stroke mods go further) but 13 seems young for a ds or rap? is that even legal? in utah, if your not 16 you can't ride a atv that are over 350cc's but what do I know....
