A good trip.
We are headed next year. Did Oregon for the first time this year.
Looks like it rained on you?
Did it cool down when it rained?
For any of you who have never ridden in the desert, a camel back is NEEDED. I've had times at Sand Mt. where we left camp and got about 2 miles away and my throat was as dry as the desert sand. You really have a tough time if you don't have some liquid to get in you on those longer rides.
As for comparing to Dumont, not taking anything away from Dumont but, Dumont isn't a whole lot bigger than Sand Mt., NV. Sure, they both have some steep hills (Sand Mt. is taller) but, the overall area to ride is really pretty small.
I've never been to St. A's but, from what I hear it is a large area. Can't wait. I love climbing the tall dunes like we have at Sand Mt. but, there aren't an unlimited number of hills to climb.
Once you go to one of these places your relize why there are so many of us that talk so much about modifying their quads. We don't like shifting down to first to climb steep dunes!
Kinda sucks going back to work after that huh?

I've been to St. Anthony, Glamis, Dumont, Sand Mtn NV, and Oregon Dunes.
St. Anthony has the biggest and tallest dunes compared to any other dunes. St. Anthony is the best riding in the late spring, summer, and early fall but the rest of the time its too cold and snowy and thats when glamis and dumont are perfect. The way you can ride the dunes at St. Anthony are amazing. 3-5th gear all the time. Its amazing how fast i go through fuel there. Around bowls at full throttle is awesome.
Dumont is pretty small, its like 2 Sand Mountains(NV) put together. Still a fun place but if i am gonna drive 9 hours to dumont, i might as well drive an extra hour or two to Glamis.
Oh wait, nobody go to St. Anthony, it sucks

Every word spoken about ST.A is true and then some, but gentlemen, Jericho Utah has the drag racing hill. Not as steep as Choke Cherry (close on teh south side) but 2-3 times as long, come check it out sometime.

Just back yesterday from SA! Their is no comparison to Dumont aside from both are sand. SA is awesome it has it all! Huge dunes, massive bowls, clean sand, incredable ridgebacks, and some of the steepest sand you'll ever see. Devils dune was extreemly steep and peaked this time. Choke was not too tough on the main face but the east side fingers still were.

Ok guys, back from SA and I can honestly say, this dunes are a pretty close to the sand addicts heaven. Sorry, but Dumont dunes are not even close. We had a great time and for sure was not last time we been there. 16 hour drive was well worth it.

I just got back from there tonight. Riding was great as usual only high 70s in temp. They are enforcing the flag law hard $500.00 fine. Lots of stupid people there riding without helmets including kids without helmets. I ended up taping up a guy I knows broken foot. Motorcycle verses quad both vehicles damaged lucky for the guy I know he had good boots on would have been real ugly if he hadn't had them, peg ripped through the bottom of the boot broke toes at least. Other than that he was banged up but able to ride his bike out. I like my new paddles didn't get to climb as much as I wanted to but enjoyed the extra traction.
