In my book they might as well, unless you want to all cruise around on stock bikes with your CUSTOM stickers to show who has the baddest stickers on their bike................................. Come on, this has been a place to go for years and now the next step is to close the beach because NOBODY is showing up.

basically over on planetsand a lady talked to the head ranger and all this seems to have started over loud exhaust.they seem to be only concerned with keeping sound levels at the legal limit.they said that they dont really care about the racing just make sure your bike complies with the 96 db limit and you should be all set.

Yeah they didnt stop the racing but heck, have you heard a quiet racing banshee before???? I really like the sound of them but dont want to own one....hehehehehe

So whose got the setup on their race banshee that will pass the db law?

They said most of the racers with 4 strokes were not getting stopped but the banshees were.

Who can we write to or complain to about this db law in the middle of the dunes??? I am ready

4-strokes are just as loud as a 2-stroke. If they bother us now they'll bother you in a month.

There arent many bikes in pismo right now that will pass a 96dB test. Hell, my silenced 370 dB'ed at 101 at an idle

I'm sure at first they'll start with the worst offenders. The ones that are obviously over the limit. The thumpers are just as loud as the 2-strokes. Personally, I hate loud exhaust, as I enjoy my hearing. Some people also like rap...why, I don't know. I was witness to someone with a WR400 who tested at like 104 or something like that. WB E-Series, 4 plates. He normally runs 12, but runs a lot around CA City and other desert/BLM area.

The sound laws go all the way back to the 70s with Federal statutes. I think the current OHV limits in CA are from the late 80s, maybe mid 90s.

If people don't like the law, try and get in changed (1000:1 it will only go down). Otherwise go ride in the desert on BLM land where there's nobody out there to 1) care 2) enforce the law. However, ANY place in CA (Fed, State, etc.) the law stands. Not sure about private land, but in that case you also can't ride closer than 1/4 mile from a dwelling (or something like that.)

If less people go to Pismo with loud bikes, good. It's one less argument the "environmentalists" will be able to use against us.

I wouldn't start selling your quads just yet, in Oregon we have had to deal with noise limits for a long time and for the most part if you have an aftermarket pipe on any quad or bike you are over the limit. It sounds like the days of unmuffled drag pipes may be coming to a close for you guys but hey that's how it will be for everyone. Here we obviously are not running stock pipes on every bike but showing up without silencers is a no no. I would talk to the forestry service or whoever is in power there and just find out how strict they are going to be on enforcement of the law. Here if your cool around the camping/staging areas your ok, after you get out on the sand let it rip. Make an effort to improve things in their eyes and it will go better for you guys. There has to be someone from the ASA or a local atv club that has the ability to communicate with the authorities there...
