Do i really need paddles?

How much are you spending on the trip? How long are you going to be here for? The value is in the experience. Paddles will make your time here more enjoyable. To me it seems a small price to pay compared to the total price of the trip. It is your time off, it's really up to you on whether you spend it getting unstuck all the time or limitted by what you can climb instead of getting the best experience.

well according to mapquest, im 315 miles from seattle 5.5 hrs. I live in the southern part of British Columbia in a city called kelowna, best known for its outstanding wines, great golf, a 80 mile long lake and fantastic skiing. Daily flights from seattle to Kelowna its the city of four seasons. hot and dry in the summer, and like today, dumpin snow in the winter. There are unlimited amounts of back country to quad and snowmobile. If ya ever make it up here i'd be glad to take you for a ride, a beer or,,,, even both!!!
Totally looking forward to our trip south to Oregon in May!!! Its looking like i'll cave in and buy some paddles after reading the responses here so far. I hate getting stuck!!!
Take it easy!!!

Good point I can make it with my eiger up most the hills in the wet seasons, seriously by paddles, you can always sell them if its not your cup of tea or if you get a lot of snow you could try them out there.

yes we do still have the rockets hockey team. In fact they won the memorial cup last year and we are hosting the 2006 world hockey championships. Its the best (and only) game in town. I'd love to test out your tires when im down in that neck of the woods. Email me at raptrguy@hotmail.com with your contact details and i'll be sure to get ahold of all of you. we can make it a huge party weekend. We are anticipating the trip to happen on the May Long weekend. I think its the 2nd to last weekend.

I have ridden my Raptor three years at Oregon Dunes. I've been to Oregon Dunes 18 years straight.
If money is an issue, just run the Razors on this first trip. They will take you everywhere except a few of the steeper climbs.
If money is not so important, your best setup would be Sand Skate II's on medium weight aluminum wheels. Buy them mounted. And almost as important on a four stroke is your fronts. Get razors on aluminum up front. The normal offsets will give you some additional stability (width).
Buying a used set from E-Bay or elsewhere would also be good.
Borrowing a set would be even better. You could buy tires mounted at Florence, or at North Bend Yamaha just south of the big bay Bridge over Coos Bay.
No matter what tires you have, there are some places you will not be able to climb out of, so don't go down unless you are sure you can make it back up. Some places have no other way out, because of trees and lakes. It is an awesome trip!
Winchester Dunes are the biggest, but Horsfall and Florence Dunes are also great fun. Since you seem to be motelling, you must be trailering in each day? With three days to play, I would go to each place for one day on this first trip. Launch at Horsfall down south (Spinreel 2nd choice), launch at South Jetty up north (Driftwood 2nd choice), and Winchester at the far end of the access road. Horsfall access is just north of the Coos Bay Bridge, look for the sign. South Jetty access is just south of the city of Florence, look for the sign. Winchester is in the middle, go west out of the village of Winchester on the access road. Get maps off the internet.
Don't forget the noise restrictions, flag requirements, and pay your dunes user fees.
Cabins available at KOA on the south, Discovery Point at Winchester, and I think also at Frontier on the Florence Dunes up north...all with direct dunes access (no trailering required). Make reservations now!

Sandals,
Where would you suggest for lodging thats half decent? Is the KOA any good? what if we were to camp? whats the best place to be? All we want is a place that we can have a hot shower at the end of the day and knock back plenty of good Ol Canadian beer. Hey a few ladies wouldn't be so bad either ...LOL
Whats the weather like typically that time of the year if you might know?
TIA
