50k acres to re-open at Glamis?
#1
I was reading the Union-Baboon (local paper) this morning and it looks like 50K acres will be re-opening in the Imperial Sand dunes. The map shows north of the highway by Glamis store but I haven't seen that area open for over 20 years.Must be talking about the middle section that was lost 4 years ago.
They talked about a permit needed for "sand buggies" in go into what was called "the deep dunes".
Got to laugh that the way these types of articles are written.
Maybe we have won a same battle here

the area north of the freeway is not subject to a re-open without an act of congress.
they are talking about the area between gordons and glamis most likely. this has been going on for a couple years now. legal crap like this takes time and money.

upon further reading on another website dedicated to dune riding, you are right. recently the BLM and other officials have concluded there investigations of if off road vehicles were allowed to once again enter temporary closures between glamis and gordons would effect the two endangered species that live in the area came back false.
im sure the greenies will not sit back and let this one slide easily.

Email directly from ASA said that the biologic decision on the PMV Science came out in our favor, so now BLM can go ahead with instituting the RAMP (management plan). This will still take a while and CBD and Sierra Club will be fighting this any way they can.....but it looks good right now. The center closure of 50,000 acres will be accessable by permit only ubder the terms of the new RAMP. But this won't happen for a while. Still lots to be done. Maybe next fall we will see the changes.
Thank you ASA!
