bigdylan, howd the gear swap go? i'm thinking about one smaller on my 05 raptor

Default raptor gearing

thks CT..well im not a big time racer persay..i dune around alot but occasionally race my buddies here and there..nothing major... i just wanna pick up bottom and mid power so i changed out the front to 12 tooth..but heard u talking about using 22 inch rears w/ 12 tooth and wondering about that..thks

BIGDYLAN,
How did the gearing change work for you? Did you make it yet?

If not,....JMO , top end usually does not mean much in the sand dunes. We mostly like to be geared right for the sand climbs. Most guys I know either go up one or two teeth in the back or, (easier) go down one in the front. I really don't know anyone who gears up for the dunes. Sand drags, maybe?
I like to be able to get into a higher gear on comp hill so I can get more power down low for wheel speed coming out of the hole, and also when I hit my shift point to 4th....I don't want to bog in 4th. Btw, my 01 Raptor power setup is about like yours.
With your 20" rears, you may be about right at stock gearing, maybe go up one tooth in the back.

Where do you ride dunes near Tennessee?
