Default Sand Camping Tips

Thinking of camping in the sand this year on Laborday weekend at Winchester Bay. I have a Chevy 3500 quad cab, dually. 4x4 and a 22ft trailer. Is it tuff to drive out there and camp? Do I need to let air out of my tires? If so how much? Is having a dually going to make it harder? Do I need to buy a permit in advance?

Rookie sand camper.....Don't want to get stuck

Thanks

Definately air down your tires. 15-20lbs should do it. The dually will actually help with flotation on the sand. Keep it pointed straight and keep your speed up and you should be fine. Just don't make any sharp turns in the deep stuff. Take a couple shovels with you just in case. I also recommend picking up a tow strap just in case you do get stuck and need someone to pull you out.

Have a palnned route from the point you hit the sand to your camp site. Give her hell and GO GO GO!!! Momentum is key in the sand with a trailer. If you stop, you sink. Air down yout trailer tires as well. and just prepare to be stuck. We always have someone in the group get stuck. Its inevitable......

we use a Co2 tank to refill our tires. just a thought. i hate slow compressors. but if heard stories of the co2 freezing or some crap and knocking the balance off of the tires. i dont know what that means....i live in socal so freezing only happeneds in our freezers.
